This is an excellent example of how to build texture in Riesling.
Winemaker and grape grower Nick Mills holds this wine back for a minimum of a year before releasing it to market. It’s made from the mature vines on the Rippon vineyard, harnessing the power of this fruit takes a little extra time.
The wine spends a day or two on skins and 100 days on lees before going to bottle. Nothing is hurried at Rippon and the mesmerising complexity of this wine on release is a testament to Nick’s patience.
It’s a wine which looks better every year in bottle.
